The Fat Lady Cartoon, well what can I say. My big thing when creating any illustrations is making sure the expressions on the face is most pronounced. I think that is one reason why I make the eyes so big. I really think the eyes say the most about someone’s mood. Anyway, staying on the topic here. As kids we tend to stare at the obese or rather larger people in front of us if we are standing in line at the groceries store. Or, in this case at the bus stop.
When I first started out creating this illustration I wanted to have a fat librarian and a little boy. Then as I kept the sketch moving along and really wasn’t getting any where with the librarian idea. I then finally thought, wouldn’t it be nice to have an illustration of this large lady standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus while the little boy passes by to stare at this lady. So this is what I came up with. I think what also makes it humorous is the fact that her clothes and glasses are a little out dated.
